The following varieties of cherries are grown at Lavender Hill.Cherry varieties

Supreme cherries:  A large heart‐shaped variety with dark‐red to black skin and deep red flesh. Supreme cherries are one of the easier cherries to pit, making them a popular choice for jam and they have a rich, sweet flavour. Supreme cherries are available early in the season.

Vista cherries: Vista cherries are medium large, heart-shaped fruit with a dark-red skin and a red flesh.  Vista cherries are available early in the season.

Samba cherries:  A large cherry with a round shape with flattened top.  Samba cherries are dark red to mahogany in colour and have firm red flesh with a slightly tart juice.  Samba cherries are available mid season.

Ron cherries (also known as Ron’s seedlings):  A very dark red medium to large cherry.  Ron cherries have a rounded heart shape, with solid green stems.  Ron cherries have firm flesh with a sweet dark red juice.  Ron cherries are available mid season.

Black Star cherries:  Black Star cherries have a dark red, almost black, skin colour.  Black Star cherries are available midway through the season.

Van cherries:  A medium to large sized round fruit with short stems.  Van cherries have dark red skin and flesh, and are firm and very juicy with crunchy texture.  Van cherries have a very sweet taste, and freeze well.  Van cherries are available mid season.

Lapin cherries:  A cross between the Van and Stella varieties. Lapin cherries are a large and juicy sweet cherry, being dark red to purple in colour.  Lapin cherries are available late in the season.

Kordia cherries:  Kordia cherries are medium–large heart-shaped cherry with a dark-red skin and a red flesh.  Kordia cherries are available late in the season.

Regina cherries:  Regina cherries are a flattish-round cherry that are firm, juicy, sweet and aromatic.  Regina cherries are available late in the season.

The early variety cherries ripen around the start of November, and the season continues until the end of December. Of course, timing changes depending on seasonal conditions.
